T’S RESTAURANT IS HERE FOR BRUNCH WEEK. LET’S GO. THE ROADSHOW STARTS RIGHT NOW. — “THE RHODE NOW. SHOW” STARTS RIGHT NOW. IT IS THE FLICKERS’ RHODE ISLAND RHODE ISLAND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. WE ARE JOINED BY GEORGE T. MARSHALL AND STEVEN FEINBERG. GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME BACK. ALWAYS A PLEASURE. YOU KICKED OFF LAST NIGHT, RIGHT? GEORGE: IT WAS CRAZY. WE HAD 1400 PEOPLE, PACKED, ENTHUSIASTIC. THE WORLD CAME TO RHODE ISLAND. A GLOBAL CAST OF FILM MAKERS CAME. BRENDAN: AND SO MANY PEOPLE MAKE IT HAPPEN. STEVEN: GEORGE MARSHALL IS THE MAIN MAN. GEORGE: IT IS A SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT WORK YEAR ROUND. WE HAVE A TRIMESTER SYSTEM. WE HAVE AN INTERN RIGHT NOW FROM CHINA. WE HAD 18 AND- IN TURNS — IN TERMS -WORK- 18 INTERNS WORKING RIGHT NOW. IT IS A YEAR-ROUND EFFORT. BRENDAN: LET’S GET A LOOK AT THE ARTWORK. GEORGE: IT SHOWS THE INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR OF THIS BECAUSE SOME OF THESE FOLKS ARE FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. THE FLAGS THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW SAY FLICKERS ON THEM. IT — BRENDAN: IT RUNS AUGUST 6 THROUGH 11, RIGHT? STEVEN: I WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO THE RHODE ISLAND STATE COUNCIL OF THE ARTS, A BIG SUPPORTER OF THE RHODE ISLAND FILM FESTIVAL AND THE RHODE ISLAND FILM AND TV OFFICE. GEORGE: A LABOR OF LOVE. STEVEN: THE FESTIVAL RUNS ALL THIS WEEK. WE HAVE GOT SOME FANTASTIC FILM FORUMS THAT ARE HAPPENING. THERE ARE WALKING TOWARDS FOR THE FILMMAKERS THAT HAVE NEVER SEEN RHODE ISLAND. IT IS THE SMALLEST STATE WITH THE GREATEST BACK LOT. GEORGE: AND TOMORROW WE HAVE SOMETHING CALLED THE RHODE ISLAND FILM FORUM, WHICH STEPHEN COSTS. WE BRING IN FILM ACTORS INCLUDING SHERRY OTERI FROM “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE,” AND PEOPLE GET A CHANCE NOT ONLY FOR LUNCH BUT TO MEET THESE INTERNATIONAL FILMMAKERS. BRENDAN: I WOULD PAY TO MEET YOU. LET’S TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE FILMS, STARTING WITH — HOW DO I PRONOUNCE THIS? GEORGE: “AFGHANISTANI.” IT GIVES YOU A VIEW OF HOW THINGS ARE PROGRESSING OR NOT PROGRESSING IN THAT COUNTRY, A BEHIND-THE-SCENES LOOK. IT IS VERY POWERFUL. A LOT OF THE FILMS WE HAVE THIS SEASON ARE FROM FILMMAKERS IN THESE COMMUNITIES THAT ARE GIVING US A PERSPECTIVE WE DON’T GET IN THE NEWS, AND THAT’S WHAT I THINK BECOME SO IMPORTANT. IN THIS CASE, IT LOOKS AT PTSD AND HOW IT AFFECTS VETERANS. STEVEN: LAST NIGHT, WE SHOWED A SMALL FILM FROM THE WINNERS OF TWO YEARS AGO, THE FILM FESTIVAL — THIS ACADEMY AWARD-WINNING SHORT FILM FOR ME AT AT THE FESTIVAL. ALL THE FILMMAKERS THAT WERE THERE SAW THAT AND WERE INSPIRED AND CHEERED BECAUSE THEIR FILM HAS A CHANCE TO WIN THE ACADEMY AWARD FOR SHORT FILM. BRENDAN:’S — BRENDAN: “NO ABOVE THE EARTH,” WHAT D “NO ABOVE THE EARTH,” WHAT DO WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS? GEORGE: ANOTHER STORY FROM STORY FROM AN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE. YOU CAN SEE HOW GORGEOUS THIS IS. THIS IS FROM RUSSIA. WHAT IS INTERESTING — THIS IS A MUSIC PIECE THAT DEALS WITH THE LOST CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN KILLED IN WARS AND ALSO THE IMMIGRATION ISSUE RIGHT NOW. BRENDAN: STUNNING. STEVEN: YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE THE AUDIENCES SEE WHEN THEY COME TO THESE MOVIES? YOU CAN HAVE AN ANIMATED FILM THAT TOUCHES YOU AND MAKES YOU LAUGH, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DRAMA. THEN, YOU ARE IN A SCI-FI DRAMA. WE HAD A LOT OF WORLD FILMMAKERS. BRENDAN: I CAN SEE IT NOW, “RHODE SHOW THE MOVIE.” A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK OF ME AS A YOUNG BOB REDFORD, AS I HAVE TOLD YOU MANY TIMES. I HAVE BEEN TO THIS EVENT IN YEARS PAST, AND IT IS ALWAYS A WONDERFUL TIME. YOU CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR JOINING US. FANTASTIC, YOU GUYS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE EVEN MORE INFORMATION, OR TO CHECK THAT
