  1. Hey! Venezuelan here. This made me cry for multiple reasons: 1.- The fact that someone is actually factually reporting on what happens to us and in some ways, this has been more through-rough than a lot of journalist.
2.- Because it reminded me of exactly how bad this is, with no end on sight. 🙁

Just to fact-check/expand on context: Venezuela did have a real, albeit imperfect democratic system from 58-98… The year we elected that asshole Hugo Chávez. And to be fair, plenty of people-both local and immigrants- profited: there was more social mobility and the opportunity to study, get good jobs, make a living, take care of your family, etc. Venezuela was much like the US, a migration magnet.

And food scarcity started in 2007: milk was one of the first things to go. The thing is that because of the high oil prices is like they could keep cooking in spite of a gas leak, but eventually you rub out of gas.

The thing about controlling of the 1 resource=control of the population is true. Is like how abusive partners will try to prevent their victims from having their own money or take away any income they generate so as to keep them subdued.

The Venezuelan government is responsible for people not finding food, but they will SELL you boxes of government selected food for you. So, also Maslow’s pyramid: you keep people from being able to protest because they’re relying on that food box you sell them. And government officials are the ones who import that food and make money off of it.

  2. I always think about Wakanda as a Fallen Empire. They once conquered the whole Africa, but collapsed a long time ago. Wakanda is the capital and the only territory left from the accent empire. So their technology is incredibly advance for their time, but they have been stagnated for centuries.

  3. Another Venezuelan here!

Pretty sure MatPat won't read this, but for anyone that is, there's another thing you should know.

The command and control economy of Venezuela doesn't limitate just to the oil industry; before 1998 we had a high oil dependence already (around 80% of the gross income), but we did have a diversified enough economy to produce enough food, cars and services for our own population and even to sell it to neighbooring countries like Brazil and Colombia (a big hug to any colombian-brazilian brothers out there reading this!).

Then the 98 election came, Chavez changed the Constitution (legitimaly, I have to add, but he did) and pretty much started taking control of every major power holding position in the Republic. He took full control of PDVSA (state oil company) and the armed forces after 2002-2004. Then he took full control of the National Assembly (Congress) in 2005 and from 2007 onwards he took property of private business all over the country.

He took the most important comunications company (CANTV), therefore took control over phone and internet connections. Then he took control of major industries in the south of the country, where our construction materials come from (a shortage of building material still exists up to this point), also took over farms and fields, the most important supplier of agriculture supplies (Agro Isleña, turned it into Agro Patria).

To make it short, they didn't only take over the most important industry of the country, but also gained control over every section of the economy; now there's is basically no single service that doesn't have a goverment controlled monopoly or semi monopoly (an example would be internet, which has companies like Movistar and Digitel which are private, but fail to deliver good services due to the overall difficulty of providing new technologies). Goverment control of economic sectors is mostly bad guys, don't let 'em fool you!

Big love from Venezuela! Still in Resistance here!

  4. 1:56, Thanos strolling into Wakanda like "what did I miss, what did I miss, Wakanda you old sweet home I wanna kill your prince."

  5. i dont like how he used venezuelien fotos of destroyed places it should be more like this

  6. 7. Killmonger-the worst super villain name
While taser face is just waiting and holding himself a good ol beer

  8. MatPat, get your facts straight. There’s all this, but don’t forget, Black Panther is nearly a Nigerian prince. He just needs to go online, offer some people millions of dollars, and simply ask for a small amount of money to handle shipping.

  9. Lol, good by United States and the Petro dollar. Yea, that's what our currency is based on. Oil. It goes, so does our economy.

  10. Actually the Queen IS the head of state for Britain along with a lot of the commonwealth. But that is a constitution so I get where your coming from, but being head of state doesn’t necessarily mean that you are all powerful.

  11. Something like this happened in the comics. BP had to render the Vibranium on earth useless and depend pure debt to substain the country.

  12. Wakanda is not a country because in order for a country to be a country 100 un seats must realize it as a country.

  13. Notice that they say vibranium is stronger than steel so the sword that cut through captain americas sheild could have been made out of titanium

  14. I mean, to be fair Im pretty sure I’ve read in the comics or something that wakanda has every natural resource available to them in their borders. Could be wrong though.

  15. I'm allergic to copper and I am a future graphic designer. I am a designer, book writer, jewelry maker. For fun. Gonna go to college on the 26th. Any tips?

  16. Wakanda didn’t have Vibranium as its only export though. If you can count computers as an American export then you can surely count the many different cutting edge technologies that Wakanda has and the rest of the world just simply can’t produce.

  17. There's a huge difference between Wakandas Vibranium and any other Natural resource as Vibranium can be used in almost every single way possible.
Food, Body, Sound, Technology, etc. Thousands of different things Wakanda can use Vibranium for but they don't let any out of Wakanda besides Caps shield. Atleast in the MCU.

  18. What about the Vibranium in Antarctica? (Sure we dont know if it'll exist in the MCU) but it does in the Comics. Which actually helps Wakanda. Especially since there's has different properties or is more pure. It is stronger in Wakanda.
    Cold maybe?

  19. Best thing to do is not only what you sad, but also to create a self sufficient system. Buy some seeds and teach your citizens how to plant and grow food. Find solutions so you don't need to buy the most important things for a society. Like food, water, helthcate, education and electricity. If your country can produce these for itself then the export ernings don't matter so much. You don't need to produce enough for export. Just enough for yourself. Ones you can provide for yourself without any help, you have a stable system. Then, the export of your super metal would only come about for luxury like specific spices or devices that only exist elsewhere. That way you might experience some shorting on luxury items, but your cities don't suffer just because someone else found a better metal then you.

  20. This narrative is disregarding the fact that the technology of wakanda is far more technologically advanced that anyone else’s on the planet…👎🏾

  21. White people steal brown people’s stuff, enslave and murder brown babies and children and then gaslight them about hitting themselves. This is genuine imperialist bootlicking propaganda. Ps, for irony alert, did you bother to notice you use an example of a REAL white empire literally stealing the resources of a brown country to claim that country is an example of a FICCTIONAL work that does the same thing to a brown country and it’s also written/presented to us as “REALISM” by a white dude. I see the butterfly eating caterpillars and I wonder when irony will eat itself full. I hate sjw bs. My complaint is you’re an idiot who has presented literal lies and bad reasoning and white supremacy as tho it is economic theory and science when it is ideology and scientism… for white supremacy. This shit don’t exist in a vacuum. And to all the toolbots here cheering it: the story of Venezuela is absolutely and currently a story of white supremacy without and borders. Fuck Maduro, and every little white supremacist shit for the opposition. I can walk and chew gum. Y’all choke on rain.

  22. Okay for the PostScript thing with for the killmonger you have to realize he didn't really have a good childhood compared to search Halo he got to talk to his dad before he died he got to fix a lot of personal issues killmonger didn't have that doesn't realize that when t'challa has a son he's going to treat him the same way his father treated him if that makes any sense

  23. Fiver – .5 a half point 1/20th of a gram or whatever measurement is equivalent to $5. In other words yes. 5 dollars worth of drugs like pots, cracks and pills but they will all kill you if you do them even once everyone loves them.

  24. Well, wakanda hardly supplies vibranium to the outside world, they've lived that way and survived for 100s of years ,they surely don't rely just on vibranium.

  25. Your wrong n this one.
You can't compare Vibranium to oil or any real resource.

Vibranium is more like a replicator,Dilithium crystal and teleporter from Startrek combined.

All wakanad's energy problems are solved with Vibranium.Wakanada Appears to be entirely self sufficient and has no need for the outside world.

Wakanadas finally opened its borders but that was to to help others not because Wakanda needed any type of trade with the world.

Wakandas technology appears to make them an autonomous economy where there's enough for everyone and the cost to produce goods is non existence or extremely minimal.

I would even argue Wakanda has a YouTube economy where as most if the people creating things due it because they enjoy what they do.And the basic nessesities are assured by a higher authority.

With Vibranium wakanada produces everything they need cheaply and in abundance.Food ,Clean water and shelter are not a concern for Wakandans. They don't have limitations on these products as we due in reality since they seem to have a virtually unlimited power source.

  26. But your forgetting that they were isolated and therefore have a self sustaining country and it doesn’t matter weather they have an economy or not they have vibranium

  27. I'm disappointed. This was the least thought out thing I've ever seen from you, how do you create a theory about how an economy works that's cut off from the rest of the world and self sustained. How do you create a theory about a fictional economy in a movie without seeing the movie first. They don't import goods so why is it necessary to take anything said into consideration. You kept saying "in the real world" like the suspension of disbelief regarding their economy was so imperative but then acknowledge the fact they have above average education systems and a happy population; and I just can't wrap my head around how it's so hard to believe a country populated by intelligent happy people with the resources to sustain themselves as well as a wealth of an all purpose foreign to the planet resource and futuristic hospitals can manage to figure out how to function solitarily. The point at the end was to not let obsolete ways of thinking passed down alienate you, it's a critique on society not Saudi Arabian economics so this ah ha moment at the end after you finally saw it was just confirmation bias at work cause there's no way in north america that you watched that movie and intelligently came to the conclusion that was economy on the brink of collapse without external help. At the very least you should have heard when they said they make weapons and clothes from vibranium that's weapons and textiles (two different industries) and to think we're just going to recreate something on earth made of space metals strong enough to stop the attack of a god it's just unrealistic and even if they could they don't sell vibranium so there no longer being a market for vibranium due to an alternative doesn't lose them any money or anything. Do better

  28. Black panther dad doesn’t give him the power he have too fight who changed him but no one did except the villain

  29. If you're from 2019 you will know that this crisis will no longer exist, because Tony Stark…

So yeah, we can't make an alternative anymore now that the only genius has…well…

  30. just to let you know, T'Challa actually rendered all Vibrainium useless in the comics lol so they are big time fucked
